Ted, Beware rules of thumb in relation to slab foundations for machinery. There's actually a point (which varies from system to system) where the slab weight becomes small/large enough that it *amplifies* the motion it was supposed to damp. Principles of Soil Dynamics (Braja Das, 1993) has a section on designing against vibration in machine foundations that's pretty good. No code ref's spring immediately to mind, however. --------- Charles Hamilton, EIT Phone: 714.824.8257 (office) Graduate Student 714.856.2797 (home) Department of Civil and FAX: 714.824.8694 Environmental Engineering Email: chamilto(--nospam--at)eng.uci.edu University of California, Irvine
