I agree with most of what Charlie Carter indicated in his post, especially 
the amount of inappropriate second guessing by Charles Thornton. I personally 
think the buildings, for most part, behaved beautifully and provided the 
occupants ample time to evacuate. 

With respect to protecting such buildings in the future, I should note that 
Dr. Hassan Astaneh of Berkeley is doing some significant research in this 
area. His proposal, as I understand it, is to incorporate composite 
steel/concrete plates to the curtainwall system of the building. The system, 
if proven to work, can prevent the plane from entering the building 
altogether. The plane would substantially disintegrate upon impact and the 
interior of building would remain functional.
